The Roof Replacement Project at 4232 Selkirk Drive West

In January 2024, we completed a full roof replacement at 4232 Selkirk Drive West in Fort Worth's Westcliff Addition neighborhood. The project covered 42.60 squares of new shingle installation using CertainTeed's Landmark series in Heather Blend — a color and product combination well-suited to the aesthetic of established Fort Worth residential neighborhoods and the punishing climate that comes with living in North Texas.

The project moved through an insurance claim process with Travelers, and like most of the work we do across Fort Worth, it required careful coordination between the homeowner, their insurer, and our team. From initial inspection through final installation, the goal was the same it always is: leave this home better protected than we found it, with a roofing system built to last.

This page exists to share what went into that project and what it means for neighbors and homeowners in the surrounding area who may be facing similar decisions about their own roofs.

Why This Fort Worth Homeowner Chose Wortham Brothers

We've been doing roofing in Fort Worth since 1986. That's nearly four decades of family-owned operation in the DFW market — long enough to have replaced roofs that we originally installed, and long enough to have watched Fort Worth grow from its edges outward into the neighborhoods we now serve daily.

Anita Quinones, the homeowner at this property, worked with our team lead Ben Wortham when the original replacement was completed. What brought her back to leave a second review wasn't the installation itself — it was something that happened two years later, when her insurance company raised her deductible and she needed help navigating the paperwork to potentially reverse that decision.

Here's what she had to say, in her own words:

> "Two years ago with the help of Ben Wortham my roof was replaced. At that time I believe I wrote a glowing review. Fast forward to now. Two days ago I received notification from my insurance company that while my premium renewal is less than last year, there is a significant increase in my deductible for my roof. So I did my due diligence. I went to see my insurance agent. He was apologetic for the increase but was not very helpful. He suggested I contact my roofing company to get them to issue a TDI form which shows that my roof is hail resistant. This would then hopefully result in a decrease of my deductible. I immediately contacted Ben. He was very responsive and more than willing to help me with this matter. He made it clear that the responsibility for this form was on the shoulders of the insurance company but that he would help me any way that he could. I secured the form, without the help of my agent, and emailed it to Ben. He had this filled out immediately and sent it back quickly. Ben's polite and quick response to my concern is exactly what I look for in a business that I engage with. I really appreciate him and his team. Mind you, this company did work on my house two years ago and yet he treated me as if he was still trying to secure my business. I do not hesitate to recommend this company for your roofing needs." — Anita Quinones

That last line says something important. Two years removed from the original project, no active contract, no pending sale — and the response was the same as if she were a new customer. That's not a policy we invented for marketing purposes. It's how a family business works when the people running it understand that reputation is built over decades, not transactions.

The CertainTeed Landmark System

The Landmark series from CertainTeed is one of the most widely installed architectural shingle products in North America, and for good reason. It's a dual-layered laminate shingle that delivers a dimensional appearance — more depth and shadow than standard three-tab shingles — while providing the kind of durability that North Texas weather demands.

For this project, we installed Landmark in Heather Blend, a warm, multi-tonal color that blends gray, brown, and tan tones in a way that complements the varied architecture found throughout Westcliff Addition and the broader southwest Fort Worth area.

From a performance standpoint, CertainTeed's Landmark shingles carry a Class A fire rating, strong wind resistance, and are manufactured to meet the demands of climates like ours — where a roof might face 105-degree summer heat in August and a significant hail event in April. We hold CertainTeed's ShingleMaster certification, which means our installation work meets the manufacturer's standards for workmanship and allows us to offer the full scope of available warranty coverage.

On a project of 42.60 squares, precision matters. Every square represents 100 square feet of roof surface, and at that scale, small errors in installation compound quickly. Our crews follow a structured installation process — proper underlayment, correct nailing patterns, ridge cap consistency — because the warranty is only as good as the installation behind it.

Working Through an Insurance Claim

This project was completed through an insurance claim with Travelers. While it wasn't tied to a named storm event, general storm damage and weathering in the Fort Worth area frequently generates legitimate claims, and homeowners are often surprised to learn how much their insurance company will cover when the claim is handled correctly.

We work with insurance carriers regularly. That familiarity matters — not because we do anything unusual, but because we understand how to document damage accurately, how to communicate with adjusters in the language they expect, and how to make sure nothing is overlooked on the scope of work. A claim that's written correctly the first time moves faster and produces better outcomes for the homeowner.

Anita's experience two years after her installation is also worth noting here. When her insurer raised her deductible and she needed a TDI form documenting her roof's hail resistance, Ben was able to provide that documentation quickly. CertainTeed's Landmark shingles carry impact resistance ratings that can be relevant to insurance classifications in Texas, and having that documentation on file is part of what it means to work with a contractor who stays engaged after the job is complete.

If you're in the early stages of an insurance claim and aren't sure whether your damage qualifies or how the process works, we're happy to walk you through it at no charge.

Why Fort Worth Roofs Need More Than Standard Materials

Fort Worth sits squarely in Tornado Alley's southern corridor, and the weather reflects it. Summers here are long and genuinely brutal — sustained heat above 100°F is routine, and UV exposure at that intensity degrades lower-quality shingles faster than manufacturers' estimates assume. Then come the spring storm seasons, which bring hail that can range from nuisance-level to catastrophic depending on the storm cell.

The DFW region consistently ranks among the highest in the country for hail insurance claims. Fort Worth specifically takes regular hits from storms moving northeast across Tarrant County. Ice events, while less frequent, do occur — and a roof that's installed without proper attention to ice and water barriers can suffer damage in ways that aren't immediately visible but become expensive quickly.

This is why product selection matters. Not every shingle marketed as "architectural" or "dimensional" performs equally in this climate. CertainTeed's Landmark line is one of several products we install that are specifically well-suited to the temperature swings, UV load, and impact risk that Fort Worth homeowners deal with year after year.

It's also why workmanship matters as much as materials. We've inspected roofs around Fort Worth where good shingles were installed poorly — wrong nail placement, inadequate starter strips, ridge caps that weren't properly secured. The shingles looked fine from the street but were functionally compromised from day one.

What This Means If You Live Near Westcliff Addition

Westcliff Addition is a well-established Fort Worth neighborhood, and the homes here reflect the architectural styles of their era — pitched rooflines, mature trees, and a mix of brick and wood exteriors that give the area its character. They also tend to share similar roofing challenges: aging decking, wear patterns around pipe boots and flashing, and the cumulative effect of decades of North Texas weather.

If your home is in Westcliff Addition or in a nearby Fort Worth neighborhood, the conditions your roof faces are essentially identical to what we addressed at 4232 Selkirk Drive West. That means the same product logic applies, the same insurance claim dynamics are relevant, and the same long-term warranty considerations should factor into your decision.

We serve the full Fort Worth market, as well as surrounding communities. If you're in Carrollton, Coppell, or Dallas, we work in those markets regularly as well — with the same crew standards, the same materials access, and the same warranty backing every project.

Frequently Encountered Problems on Fort Worth Roofs

When we inspect homes in the Fort Worth area, certain issues come up consistently. They're worth knowing about whether you're considering a new shingle installation, evaluating storm damage, or just trying to understand the current condition of your roof.

Granule loss from UV exposure and age. Shingles lose granules over time, and in the Fort Worth heat, that process accelerates. Heavy granule loss reduces the shingle's ability to reflect heat and resist impact — and it often signals that replacement is closer than the homeowner expects.

Flashing failures around chimneys, vents, and skylights. Metal flashing expands and contracts with temperature swings. Over time, the sealants fail, gaps develop, and water finds a way in. These failures often cause interior damage before anyone notices them from the exterior.

Storm-related impact damage. Hail damage isn't always visible to the untrained eye. Bruising on shingles, cracked tabs, and compromised granule adhesion can all indicate damage that affects performance and longevity — and that may qualify for an insurance claim.

Inadequate ventilation. Poor attic ventilation traps heat and accelerates shingle degradation from the underside. It also contributes to ice damming during cold snaps. Correcting ventilation is sometimes the most important thing we do on a re-roof project.

How We Approach Each Project

Every job we take on in Fort Worth starts with a thorough inspection — not a drive-by estimate, but an actual assessment of the deck, the existing shingles, the flashing, the ventilation, and any signs of water intrusion. From there, we put together a scope that's specific to that roof, not a one-size-fits-all package.

We carry CertainTeed ShingleMaster certification alongside Owens Corning Platinum, Atlas Platinum, and GAF Certified credentials. That breadth of manufacturer certification means we can match each project to the right product without being locked into a single line. On this project, CertainTeed's Landmark was the right call — and our ShingleMaster status means the installation qualifies for the fullest warranty protection CertainTeed offers.

Our work is backed by a lifetime material warranty and a 10-year workmanship guarantee. We've held an A+ rating with the BBB since 1992, and with more than 128,000 roofs completed across DFW, we're not learning the market as we go.
