FAQ

Roofing Warranty Questions — Answered

What warranty does Wortham Brothers Roofing offer on a new roof? −
Every full roof replacement from WBR includes a lifetime material warranty from the manufacturer plus a transferable 10-year workmanship warranty from WBR itself. The material warranty covers manufacturing defects in the shingles or system for as long as you own the home; the workmanship warranty covers our installation labor for 10 years from the install date.
Is the workmanship warranty transferable if I sell my house? +
Yes. WBR's 10-year workmanship warranty is transferable, which means if you sell your home within that window, the new owner inherits the coverage. That's a real selling point worth mentioning to your realtor or in the listing — a transferable workmanship warranty on the roof is something buyers specifically look for in the DFW resale market.
What's the difference between a manufacturer warranty and a workmanship warranty? +
The manufacturer warranty (lifetime, in WBR's case) covers defects in the shingle or system itself — things like premature granule loss or material failure. The workmanship warranty (10 years, transferable) covers whether the roof was installed correctly — flashing, nailing pattern, ventilation, and other install-specific details. A roof can fail from bad installation even with perfect materials, which is why both matter. WBR carries certifications with Owens Corning (Platinum Preferred), GAF, CertainTeed (ShingleMaster), and Atlas (Platinum) that also extend enhanced manufacturer warranty terms on qualifying installs.
What can void a roofing warranty? +
The most common warranty-killers are unpermitted work by another contractor, improper attic ventilation added after the fact, unauthorized modifications like solar panel mounts or satellite dishes installed without flashing them correctly, and skipping manufacturer-required maintenance. If you're ever unsure whether a change to your roof is safe, call your WBR Account Manager before the work is done — it's a five-minute call that can save the warranty.
Does insurance cover roof replacement, and how does that interact with my warranty? +
If your roof is damaged by a covered event (hail, wind), your insurance policy — not your warranty — is what pays for replacement, since warranties cover defects and workmanship, not storm damage. Under Texas Insurance Code §707.002, WBR never waives or absorbs your deductible; that's illegal and any contractor offering to do it is a red flag. Typical full roof replacement in DFW runs $8,000–$18,000 depending on square footage and materials, and once replaced, the new roof carries the same lifetime material + 10-year workmanship warranty as any other WBR install.
How do I file a warranty claim with Wortham Brothers Roofing? +
Call your Account Manager or WBR's main line at 817-ROOFING (766-3464), Monday–Saturday 6AM–8PM. Have your install date and address ready. WBR has completed 128,000+ roofs and is BBB A+ accredited, so claims get routed to the original crew's records quickly rather than starting from scratch.
Do Class 4 impact-resistant shingles come with a different warranty? +
Class 4 impact-resistant shingles carry the same lifetime material + 10-year workmanship structure through WBR, but many DFW insurance carriers offer a premium discount for installing them, since they're built to withstand hail better than standard shingles. Worth asking your Account Manager to compare Class 4 against standard OC Duration or GAF Timberline HDZ options for your specific policy.
